hsi solutions is a subsidiary corporation of Toronto Community Housing (TCH).

Responsibilities:


• Maintains, installs and repairs wiring systems, transformers, switching equipment, relays, motors, controls and electrical distribution systems and equipment, primarily of a commercial and industrial nature

• Assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools

• Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem

• Connects wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components

• Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes

• Advises management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous

• Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system

• Maintains current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations

• Plans layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes

• Directs and trains workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures

• Prepares sketches or follows blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes

• Uses a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps

• Installs ground leads and connects power cables to equipment, such as motors

• Performs business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment

• Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools

• Works from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to
install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures

• Places conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pulls insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes

• Constructs and fabricates parts, using hand tools and specifications

• Fastens small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets

• Performs physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects

• Provides preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services

• Provides assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights and generators, placing flares, and driving needed vehicles

• Provides daily records of materials used and work performed

• Prepares sketches, diagrams, materials lists and specifications for installation work

• Provides routine work direction to other employees

Qualifications:


• Must be licensed in the Province of Ontario as a Maintenance/Construction Electrician (Ontario Reg. 32 Class 309A or R.R.O. 1970 as amended by 78-71) or as an Industrial Electrician (License 442A, Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act, R.S.O. 1990)

• Considerable experience in a wide variety of electrical work as it applies to facilities and process equipment such as overhead cranes, industrial lighting, fire protection systems, HVAC, gas detection systems, conveyors, etc.

• Must have a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and be able to maintain same plus meet City driving requirements in order to operate a service truck

• Ability to operate a forklift truck and scissor lift

• Ability to work from heights and to work in confined spaces

• Ability to work outside normal working hours including weekends and to report to call-outs

• Strong ability to diagnose, locate and correct problems

• Extensive knowledge of the theory and practice of electricity including poly phase circuits

• Ability to use a computer for information retrieval and/or data input

• Must have working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act

• Must be willing to update skills and take training required to meet Trade and City standards

• Ability to work from sketches and blue prints

• Good knowledge of Low Voltage and High Voltage up to 600 volts for equipment and circuits
